Residency — privacy policy

Last updated: 6 July 2026

Residency counts the days you spend in each country to help you track tax-residency thresholds. It is designed so that your location history never leaves your device.

What the app collects

Location (on your device only). With your permission, the app reads your device's location in the background to determine which country you are in. Raw coordinates are processed on your device and stored only in the app's local database on your phone. Precise location, coordinates, movement history, and timestamps of fixes are never transmitted to us or to any third party. Country lookup happens entirely offline against map data bundled with the app — no location data is sent to a geocoding service.

Country-level day counts (optional sync). If you create an account and enable sync, the app uploads only derived, country-level records of the form "on 2026-03-04 a day was counted in France" — no coordinates, no times of day, no accuracy data. This is the minimum needed to back up your day counts and restore them on a new device. Without an account, nothing is uploaded at all and the app is fully functional offline.

Account data (optional). If you sign in, we store your email address for authentication. Nothing else.

What the app does not do

Notifications

Threshold warnings are generated on your device by comparing your local day counts to the residency rules you configure. No push-notification server is involved.

Data retention and deletion

All location-derived data lives in the app's local database; deleting the app deletes it. If you used sync, you can delete your synced day counts and account at any time from within the app or by contacting us, and we will remove them from our systems.

Your choices

Important note

Residency is a record-keeping tool, not tax advice. Day counts — especially days inferred during tracking gaps, which the app flags — should be reviewed with a qualified tax advisor before being relied upon.
